Creating Community Coalition: Human Rights Campaign Leaders Rise to Work Towards LGBTQ Equality Across New England

HRC’s New England Dinner & Auction Will Bring Together More Than 1,000 Individuals this Fall

Boston, MA - HRC New England the regional volunteer-based committee working on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, is bringing together corporate leaders and LGBTQ advocates across New England as the organization prepares for its 36th annual community fundraising Dinner & Auction on October 7, 2017.

As HRC’s longest running regional fundraiser in the country, and with more than 1,000 individuals and corporate sponsors expected to participate, HRC’s New England Dinner & Auction is among the best attended and widely supported events held in the nation. Proceeds raised through the Dinner & Auction are used to to support HRC’s regional and national efforts to protect the equal rights of LGBTQ individuals and their families through education, research and political activities.

“This year, we’re asking individuals and companies across New England to ‘RISE’ with us and meet the challenges being made to protect LGBTQ rights, safety and freedoms,” said Paul Mataras, HRC Dinner co-chair and Managing Partner at Boston Veterinary Clinic. “By creating coalition across our diverse community of allies, we can draw on the shared value that all people deserve equal protection in our country.”

Mataras will be joined by co-chairs Nancy Huntington Stager, EVP of Human Resources & Charitable Giving at Eastern Bank, Javier Barrientos, Senior Director of Global Diversity & Inclusion at Biogen and more than 30 volunteers across the region responsible for organizing and hosting the 2017 event.

“Diversity and inclusion have become critically important for companies across the region, yet to put the concept into practice, requires a commitment by leaders as well as their employees to define and bring to life the values of the organization,” said Nancy Huntington Stager of Eastern Bank.

“To demonstrate that commitment, we’re asking leaders and everyone interested in protecting equality across New England to rise and stand together with us to support the LGBTQ people we employ, work with, and serve,” added Javier Barrientos of Biogen.
